I'm a keen collector of old enamel
advertising art signs and -objects, as you can see.
Collecting enamel advertising
signs can lead to a real passion. It's quite difficult to explane,
but it seems to me that an enamel sign has a magical aura.
Although the original purpose was just to use them temporarily,
proceeded from the industrial revolution and as an undeniable
symbole of our consumption society, the enamel signs remains closely
related to art. A big part of the signs was inspired by the work
of great artists and stylists such as Jean d'Ylen, Cappiello,
Rabier, ... and therefor still attracts attention, owing to a
strong graphic concept. Moreover, the sign is made by handcraft,
by means of fire and coloured glassenameld powder. All of this
is eventually leading to a true work of art with an incredible
aura. Besides -and this goes beyond the visual perception- everybody
has the natural reflex of gliding ones fingers over the brightly
coloured enamel sign, as a sensual caressing.
Leaving all the emotions and feelings aside, we still have to
notice the history of the past century and also our history behind
these advertising signs. The nicely presented products are not
only a reflection of the daily living of our former generations
but are also very recognizable to ourselves.
I kindly wish you a
good time while looking over this site.
